DESTIN – Lawmen say a woman who was seen beating a man turned her wrath on them and ended up being arrested on multiple battery-related charges.
On Feb. 18 Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputies received a call from a witness who said a woman was attacking a man with a black dog near the Eglin Federal Credit Union on Main Street. Deputies arrived and found the duo on the north side of the building. Both said they had argued, but that was all.
Deputies called the witness, who said he saw the woman screaming at and hitting the man as they were walking across Palms Boulevard. The witness even turned around his vehicle and went back to see what was going on, and the woman was still slapping the man.
After a second interview, the man admitted the woman, 22-year-old Danielle Chere Lagace Barganier of Destin, slapped him. He wouldn’t elaborate but told the deputy they’d been in a relationship for about a year.
The arresting deputy said he began to read Barganier her rights when she became enraged and started to stand up. The deputy told her to sit down several times, but she ignored him. When the deputy tried to handcuff her Barganier resisted by pulling away, then kicking the deputy in the shins. The deputy tackled her and while another Sheriff’s Office tried to get her under control, she bit the deputy on the wrist.
She was charged with battery with a prior conviction, battery on an officer or firefighter, and resisting an officer with violence.
Her court date is March 26.
