CRESTVIEW – A 43-year-old Crestview man decided he needed a way to get around but didn’t have the money to pay for anything. His solution? According to Crestview Police, he tried to steal a bicycle.
The man is accused of taking a green bicycle off the rack in Walmart on South Ferdon Boulevard, passing all points of sale, then trying to leave the building.
“The defendant stated he was in need of a mode of transportation,” the arrest report indicated. “The defendant stated he took the bike off the bike rack at Walmart, and wanted to use it as his mode of transportation.”
Additionally, the report said, “The defendant stated he was short on money and saw this as a way to get a mode of transportation without having to pay for it.”
The man was given a ride to jail and charged with retail theft second or subsequent offense. His plea date is Feb. 4.
