DORCAS — A 79-year-old man from Orange Park, Fla., was charged with careless driving after causing an accident on Interstate 10 Sunday afternoon.
Richard Walter Sirch was driving a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 truck with a 30-foot airstream trailer being pulled when the trailer began to sway near Mile Marker 61, according to the Florida Highway Patrol press release.
The movement of the trailer caused Sirch to lose control of the vehicle. The truck veered right traveling partially into the outside emergency lane. The trailer hit the guardrail bordering the emergency lane then rotated clockwise before rolling over onto its right side.
The truck and the trailer came to a final rest across the roadway facing north, according to FHP.
The accident caused traffic to be backed up for several hours. Westbound on I-10 was completely blocked off for 30 minutes following the wreck and was restricted to one lane for at least two hours while emergency crews worked to upright the trailer, according to Chief John Polinsky with the Dorcas Volunteer Fire Department.
The truck and trailer sustained around $27,000 in damages, according to FHP.
No injuries were suffered during the wreck.
