FORT WALTON BEACH — The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast has an extra hand helping with its events and charges.

Laila Little has been a member of the organization for five years. The 8 year-old Kenwood Elementary School student made a name for herself within the Fort Walton Beach club.

"She has been referred to as intelligent, helpful, giving and a good student with great character," said Erin Igram, resource development specialist with the organization.

At a recent field trip to the skating rink nearby, a parent watched as Laila helped other kids put on their skates, go through the snack line, and even taught them how to skate, Igram said.

All before enjoying the skating rink herself.

"When you help other people, especially other kids, it makes you have a good feeling," Laila said.

That feeling keeps her looking for ways to help others.

She helps other students with homework, organizes areas of the club with staffers and cares for club members.

"Laila's character always shines through ... " Igram said.
