Crestview schools locked down after armed robbery

CRESTVIEW — An armed robbery on Monday morning put area schools on lockdown for about two hours.

Law enforcement officers had not located a suspect by evening, said Michele Nicholson, a spokeswoman for the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

A man was robbed at gunpoint at about 9:30 a.m. in the garage of his home at 663 Ridge Lake Road northeast of Crestview. The robber struck the man with the gun several times and then took off with an undisclosed amount of cash, Nicholson said.

Deputies scoured the area for the suspect, described as a slender black man about 5 feet, 10 inches tall wearing a long-sleeved shirt and pants.

Schools put on a precautionary lockdown from roughly 9:45 a.m. to noon included Crestview High, Davidson Middle, Richbourg Middle, Bob Sikes Elementary and Northwood Elementary schools, and the Emerald Coast Career Institute.

The victim was taken to the North Okaloosa Medical Center for treatment and evaluation.

Anyone with information on the robbery should contact the Sheriff’s Office at 689-5705 or Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers at 850-863-TIPS.
