FORT WALTON BEACH – A man who tried to hide from the law in an ottoman with a glass of chocolate milk sitting on top was arrested for trespassing.
The incident occurred May 28 at a Mooney Road apartment. A Fort Walton Beach Police officer went to the complex after being told a man who’d been ordered to stay away from the area was on the premises.
When the officer arrived he saw a woman coming down the stairs. She immediately went back up the stairs and entered an apartment. The person who called police directed the officer to the same apartment.
The officer knocked, and after several seconds the woman answered. She denied the man was in the apartment, and gave the officer permission to search her apartment.
The officer noted a large ottoman sitting in front of the couch, and several items that might have been stored in an ottoman sitting on the couch. The officer began removing items from atop the ottoman, including a glass of freshly poured chocolate milk. When he lifted the lid he saw the man hiding inside and arrested him.
The officer’s report indicated the woman would be charged with obstruction.
The man’s court date is June 18.
