Officials identify woman found in Rocky Bayou

NICEVILLE — Investigators have confirmed the identity of a woman whose body was found in Rocky Bayou last Sunday as 27-year-old Misty Renee Medrano of Bradford Street in Fort Walton Beach.

A passer-by found Medrano’s body about 7 a.m. in the water near the shore at the end of 11th Street. Investigators estimate she had been in the water for 12 to 24 hours

The cause of death has not been determined. An autopsy report from the Medical Examiner’s Office has not been completed.

Meanwhile, law officers are searching for the driver of a light-colored pickup truck seen in the area the night before Medrano’s body was found. According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, the man may have had a kayak in the bed of his truck.

Investigators are requesting help from anyone who may have been near that part of town between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning or who can identify the driver.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office’s investigations division at 609-2000 or Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers at 863-TIPS.
