NICEVILLE – A man told Niceville Police he went on a $237.62 shoplifting spree because he needed to pay for his probation.

On Feb. 28 the man was spotted by a Walmart loss prevention employee perusing different parts of the store, and selecting various items. He placed them in a plastic Walmart tote, then put all the merchandise in a shopping cart and left the store through the Garden Center without paying for them, an arrest report indicated.

The man, who is 38 years old and lives in Niceville, later told officers he took the property because “I’m having a hard time and trying to pay off my probation.”

He was charged with retail theft. His court date is March 19.
