New company eyes land in East Milton

MILTON — A new distribution company is considering moving to the Santa Rosa Industrial Park in East Milton and bring hundreds of new jobs to the area.

Santa Rosa County Commissioners on Monday discussed selling a 35-acre tract at the intersection of East Milton Road and Judicial Boulevard inside the industrial park.

The name of the company has not been released. It is being referred to as Project Gold Rush by the Santa Rosa County Economic Development Department.

"We are courting a project, Project Gold Rush, that is looking at purchasing 35 acres off of East Milton Road," said Shannon Ogletree, interim director of the county's Economic Development Department. "The company is anticipating having 250 employees-plus at that single location."

Before the county can sell the land to the company, the county must first advertise that the property is up for sale. Commissioners will vote on Thursday whether to advertise the sale of the land for distribution company.

Additional details about the company remain sparse at this time.

Santa Rosa County Commissioner Bob Cole said it would be a new business to Santa Rosa County, but that they have two or three smaller locations that they are looking to consolidate.

Project Gold Rush would pay more than the county's current average wage of roughly $14.65 an hour, according to the economic development department.
