SANTA ROSA BEACH — Tucked away on South Shore Drive sits a small community of residents living at Bon Villas.
This community, though, is not your typical neighborhood. Strangers don’t exist, welcome baskets greet newcomers and everyone has someone to rely on.
Anne Myers is among the special group of people living at Bon Villas. The 80-year-old is known for her positive attitude and generosity.
“I have always said, ‘If you’re not doing something, then you’re doing nothing.’ That just doesn’t work for me,” Myers said.
No matter who is visiting, Myers always has something to serve. Her specialty is a small treat she calls an orange blossom.
“My mother taught me how to share and be kind and that’s something I still practice,” Myers said.
During World War II, Myers said her mother always invited everyone in the community over for dinner at their small home. That practice stuck with Myers and continues to this day.
Last fall, Myers was hospitalized. When she returned home three months later, welcome signs and balloons greeted her. Her neighbors had cleaned her house, decorated for Christmas, and stocked her refrigerator.
“They bring me such joy,” Myers said. “I’ve been blessed to have been surrounded by kind people most of life.”
“Sometimes its hard to ask for help, but once you do you’ll be surprised at how many people want to help you. I’m very blessed.”
