The National Weather Service has issued a severe weather warning for Northwest Florida stating that widespread rain and periodic thunderstorms will impact the area through the afternoon and evening.

A flash flood watch is currently in effect with 3 to 5 inches of rain expected to fall throughout the day and evening, according to the National Weather Service in Mobile, Ala.
Localized rainfall amounts could be up to 7 inches through the day and night. People living in areas prone to flooding such as people near creeks and low lying areas should be alert to the potential flooding.

Meteorologists say there is also a slight risk for severe thunderstorms with downburst winds that may occur. Large hail and isolated thunderstorms also are possible in the evening hours.
Following the evening rainfall is an approaching cold frontal system moving east.
The cold front is likely to last through Sunday with a potential for a light freeze with temperatures in the middle and upper 20s by later this week as a strong high pressure system builds in from the northwest.
