CRESTVIEW - His name is Jesse James Roberts. Her name is Maghan Voncile Bean. Together, they are accused of taking a person's wallet and going on a shopping spree at a local store and gasoline station.
The incident began Dec. 17 when Roberts entered the Publix on Ferdon Boulevard and cashed a check, according to the Crestview Police Department. He then walked around the store until he encountered an unmanned shopping cart near the bathroom. He made a phone call and waited for Bean to arrive, then removed the wallet from the cart and placed it in his jacket pocket.
The wallet contained $450 in cash and numerous credit cards.
This sequence of events was confirmed to law enforcement by Publix video surveillance.
A Walmart video surveillance clip on the same date shows the two, dressed in the exact same clothes they were wearing at Publix, buy items at the electronics department amounting to $226.71. They paid with an Eglin Federal Credit Union credit card from the wallet.
The card and another were also used at an Exxon Mobile station on Main Street for $43.20 and $46.
The two then returned to Walmart and purchased several toy items and a bicycle for $185.50.
The two were identified by a Walmart employee who has had multiple encounters with then in a loss-prevention capacity.
Both were charged with larceny and illegal use of credit cards two or more times.
They will see a judge on Feb. 26.
