CRESTVIEW - A man who vandalized a family's car and threatened to kill them because of their race has been arrested on multiple charges, according to a Crestview Police Department arrest report.

On Jan. 14 police received a call from the Hilton Motel on James Lee Boulevard regarding a hate crime. The victim, who is black, was staying at the motel and said he was awakened by the defendant, who was screaming racial slurs. The man came out of his room and the defendant, 29-year-old Ricky L. Bagley, no address listed, allegedly called the man and his son "n-----" and threatened the man.

Bagley ran away, but came back later with a beer bottle and threw it at the man's car. He ran off again as the man called police.

The car suffered a chipped left tail light and a "considerable" dent in the trunk, according to the report. Damage was estimated to be $2,000.

A witness said Bagley called the family "n------," declared "White power" and warned, "You n------ are going to die tonight."

Bagley was identified by a pill bottle found in his room at the motel.

About an hour later, police found Bagley in the woods behind the motel. He was positively identified by the victim.

According to Okaloosa County Jail records, Bagley was charged with resisting arrest without violence, two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, criminal mischief and criminal mischief (hate crime).

His court date is March 12.
