FORT WALTON BEACH — A 36-year-old man was taken to an intensive care unit after he was hit in the head with a baseball bat Saturday night.

Luke McEwan of Northern Pine Boulevard was at a neighbor’s home when a fight broke out between residents and drivers who were seen speeding in the neighborhood, according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office press release.

The Sheriff’s Office had received complaints earlier in the night regarding reckless driving and threats made to homeowners.

The drivers returned to the neighborhood after the Sheriff’s Office was notified and McEwan’s neighbor confronted them, armed with two baseball bats.
At some point, the neighbor was disarmed and McEwan was hit in the head with a bat, the release said.

McEwan was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information on the incident to call 850-651-7400 or call Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers at 850-863-TIPS.
