Suspicious person turns out to be man leaving blankets for homeless

NICEVILLE – Police officers have been looking into the following incidents reported within the city past few days:

- A man who lives on Byrne Street called Niceville Police to report a suspicious person. He said a man got out of a pickup truck carrying a cardboard box and disappeared into some nearby woods. An officer checked and discovered the box contained blankets, along with a note describing the blankets as free. Officers believe they were left for a homeless person who might have been living in the woods.

- A man who left the keys to his 2013 Ford Focus in the car called Niceville Police to report it had been stolen.

- A man who lives on Partin Drive told officers his son’s learner’s permit was stolen from the glove box of their vehicle. Several other items of little value were also taken. The man said he was concerned about identity theft.

- A Rue de Palms Drive resident reported his four-wheeler had been stolen.

- A woman stopped a Niceville Police officer on St. Charles Street to tell him there was a bear in her back yard. She wanted help getting into her house. No sighting of a bear by the officer was mentioned in the call history report.
