The board of directors of the Florida Housing Finance Corp. voted Tuesday to award $1,276,724 in grants to eight chapters of The Arc of Florida.
The funds were appropriated by the Florida Legislature during the 2013 legislative session. The money will be used to build new homes and renovate existing one for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Locally, Horizons of Okaloosa County received $48,000.
“This is wonderful news for the individuals our agencies serve,” said Deborah Linton, chief executive officer of The Arc of Florida, a nonprofit organization that advocates on behalf of people with disabilities. “The funding will allow our chapters to keep their group homes updated.”
The work will begin sometime in early 2014 and be completed by Sept. 30, 2015.
