FORT WALTON BEACH — In September, Timothy Glover called Opportunity Place almost daily trying to get his family into the organization.

His family, including three children all age 2 or younger, was living in homeless shelters.

“I didn’t know what we were going to do,” the 23-year-old said. “I was trying to better our lives but in the beginning we had nothing.”

Now, Glover has steady employment, his girlfriend Maria Ramirez is picking out furniture for their new home and the future looks bright.

“(Opportunity Place) gave us a chance to better our lives,” Glover said as his 2-year-old Antonio ran between the car seats with 8-month-old twins, Adrian and Adrianna, inside. “This feels like home for us.”

Glover came to the area during the summer with a relative hoping for a new start. He had to bring Ramirez and their three children down earlier than expected with no idea what to do or where to stay.

On Sept. 11, the family found a home at Opportunity Place. In two months, they saved enough money to get a home of their own and are saving to buy a vehicle for transportation.

Glover is finishing his GED and hopes to begin nursing school. Maria is looking at daycare options for the children.

“Opportunity Place is for families in need. They gave us 90 days, more than enough time, to get our lives figured out,” Glover said. “They feed us, clothe us. They’ve done everything for us.

“It’s a great opportunity to get your life together.”
