MILTON — A local man has been arrested for allegedly killing a man in Lawrence County, Ala., in February 2006.
Investigators from multiple jurisdictions came to Milton on Thursday to arrest longtime resident 59-year-old Garry Ray Lindsey, according to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office.
Multiple calls to the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office, where the arrest warrant was generated, were not returned.
According to Ginger Grantham, executive editor of The Moulton Advertiser newspaper, the only homicide in Lawrence County about that time was that of 54-year-old Roy Dale Oliver.
Oliver’s son found him shot to death in his mobile home in Moulton on Feb. 1, 2006, Grantham said. His son had been unable to contact him for a few days.
No weapon was found near Oliver’s body, Grantham said. Initial reports were unsure if anything had been stolen from the home.
The case had gone cold until Okaloosa County sheriff's investigators found information about Oliver’s killing while investigating the 1981 cold case killing of Leonard “Buddy” Phelps in Niceville, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Michele Nicholson said.
The two cases are unrelated, she said.
Santa Rosa sheriff's deputies believe there could be more information regarding suspicious activity at the time of Oliver’s death, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Anyone with information is asked to call Santa Rosa County Crime Stoppers at 850-437-STOP.
