FORT WALTON BEACH — University of West Florida on the Emerald Coast hospitality students gave back to the community by serving Thanksgiving dinner to children and their caregivers at Children in Crisis.

As part of a course project, the students chose to organize, prepare and serve a Thanksgiving dinner Monday for the organization not only to give back but to demonstrate their knowledge of food and beverage operations.

This was the second year the students have hosted the dinner for Children in Crisis.

The event featured a three-course meal, a turkey carving demonstration and a string quintet from Navarre High School. Students also taught the children proper table setting etiquette using dinnerware and cloth napkins.

“We have been told that many of these children have never experienced a traditional Thanksgiving dinner,” said Marcia Dove, a UWF professor. “We are grateful that Children in Crisis has given us this opportunity to serve.”

Students who participated were Nicole Beck, Karla Berry, Jennifer Bundrick, Daniel Crowley, Natalie Davis, Sean Duval, Deborah Elliott, Debbie Flynn, Salina Fountas, Whitney Goodwin, Elizabeth Gould, Preston Green, Brittany Hanks, Mary Lietz and Keli Nida.

Children in Crisis provides homes and establishes hope for abused, neglected and abandoned children of Okaloosa, Walton, Santa Rosa and Escambia counties. For more information about the organization, visit www.childrenincrisisfl.org.
