NICEVILLE — A young man was taken to a Pensacola hospital Tuesday morning after his car went through two yards and hit a tree.
Officials with East Niceville Fire District were called to 18th Street just after midnight after a vehicle hit a tree in the front yard of a residential home, according to Battalion Chief David Birch.
"The driver suffered life-threatening injuries due to what witnesses said was a partial ejection from the vehicle's driver (side) window," Birch said.
The driver, who was described as being in his early 20s, had compound fractures to his legs, right arm and severe chest and abdomen pain. He was taken by medical helicopter to a hospital in Pensacola.
His passenger was able to move, but had a possible collar bone injury. The passenger was taken to Twin Cities Hospital.
Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office and Florida Highway Patrol are investigating the crash.
Birch said the car was totaled.
