CRESTVIEW – A man was arrested after he entered a local department store and hid a wristwatch, shoes, shirts and shorts, among other items, in his pants, lawmen say.

The man, 39-year-old Jerry Jerome Aaron of Crestview, was spotted by a Bealls surveillance employee entering the store and taking a child’s Disney wristwatch and hiding it in his pants, according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

He was also spotted taking a pair of kid’s shoes, three shirts, a pair of pants, a pair of shorts and a tank top, according to the report. He concealed these items in his pants.

He then left the store without paying for the items and was confronted by the surveillance employee. He handed over the items, then fled in a car that was stopped by lawmen near the store.

Aaron had three prior convictions for petit theft.

When he was searched at the Sheriff’s Office booking facility, Aaron was found to have a device commonly used to smoke crack in his possession.

He was charged with petit larceny third or subsequent conviction, drug equipment possession and probation violation.

His court date is Oct. 29.
