Okaloosa County Administrator Ernie Padgett has taken temporary medical leave, his office announced Thursday.
County officials would not comment on the details of his absence.
Commission Chairman Don Amunds said he expects Padgett to be away for “a few weeks.”
County Public Works Director John Hofstad will serve as interim county administrator while Padgett is out.
“The board will ratify that Tuesday night,” Amunds said.
Padgett was a retiree living in Marianna when he was hired April 17 to head Okaloosa County. He is a former county administrator of Manatee, Santa Rosa and Jackson counties.
The commission’s final budget hearing is at 6 p.m. Monday. The next regular meeting is at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
