Man bound for jail hides pills in a strange place

CRESTVIEW – Officials say a man tried to sneak pills into the county jail by hiding pills in the waistband of his underwear.

When the defendant, Kaleb Ladure Gettis, 24, of Crestview, arrived at the Okaloosa County Jail to serve a 10-day court-ordered incarceration, he was strip-searched by jail officials.

A corrections officer found three Seroquel pills in the waistband of his underwear.

Gettis told officials he brought the drug into the jail with the intention of taking them so he could sleep. He said the pills belonged to his grandmother, and he knew he wasn’t supposed to have them in the jail. He admitted trying to hide them in his underwear.

He was charged with smuggling contraband into a detention facility. His plea date is Oct. 15.
