FORT WALTON BEACH — Officials are seeking the owner of a 2-foot-long ball python snake that wandered into the home of a local woman.
Pamela Williston called the Fort Walton Beach Police Department after discovering the snake on her kitchen counter at about 8:20 p.m. Sunday evening.
Williston told dispatchers her cat alerted her to the snake and she captured it in a pillow case until someone could get it, according to the incident report.
Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge responded to the woman’s Wright Parkway apartment, and a spokesman says they will hold onto the snake until someone claims it.
“They are commonly bought as pets,” said Brittany Patrick, wildlife technician with the refuge. “It’s a very healthy snake, so it looks like someone just lost it.”
Patrick said the snake is around one or two years old. Ball pythons can get up to 4 feet long.
Williston and a volunteer at the refuge will be knocking on Williston’s neighbors’ doors in the hopes of finding the snake’s owner.
