UPDATED: Two injured in Eglin Parkway head-on collision

FORT WALTON BEACH — Two locals were injured Saturday evening in a head-on collision on Eglin Parkway near Monahan Drive NE.

Rudel A. Burman, 20, was in the lefthand, northbound turn lane of Eglin Parkway around 8:15 p.m. when he proceeded to turn, putting his 1998 Mitsubishi in the path of an oncoming vehicle, according to the Fort Walton Beach Police accident report.

Christin Barton, 46, was traveling southbound on Eglin Parkway when she saw Burman's vehicle. She told officials she was unable to avoid a collision and hit the front of Burman's vehicle with the front of her 2012 Chevrolet four-door car.

Burman told investigators he did not see Barton's car and claimed she crossed into the turn lane hitting his vehicle, the report said. However, based on fluids in the inside, northbound lane of Eglin Parkway officials say the accident occurred in the northbound lane.

Both drivers were injured and taken by ambulance to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, the report said.

The vehicles were disabled as a result of the crash and were towed from the scene. The accident shut down Eglin Parkway for about an hour Saturday evening.

Charges have not been filed in this case as of Monday morning.
