A man from Crestview was shot and killed early Friday in a home in Jacksonville, N.C., and a Marine has been arrested in connection with the killing, according to Jacksonville police.
Police identified the victim as 39-year-old Dale Smith. Smith worked as a civilian contractor.
Officers were dispatched to the scene at 3:47 a.m. after receiving a report of a shooting. They found Smith dead from a gunshot wound in the home.
Benjamin Marisic, 24, who lived at the home where the shooting occurred, was arrested and charged with an open count of murder.
Marisic, an active-duty Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune, was being held without bond Friday.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service also is investigating the shooting.
“The investigation is ongoing,” said Lt. Ronnie Dorn, supervisor in the Investigative Services Division.
