FORT WALTON BEACH – A man denied burning his estranged wife with a cigarette, punching her in the face and trying to choke her. But Fort Walton Beach Police officers, seeing burns on her arm, and marks on her face, charged him with battery.
The attack took place July 21, the arrest report indicates. As they were driving down the road, the two started fighting and the man grabbed the steering wheel, trying to cause the woman to wreck her van, she said.
She said he burned her arm with a cigarette four times, and once they stopped, he struck her several times on the right side of her face and put his hands around her throat.
The man denied these accusations, saying, “I never touched her. I asked her to stop and let me out and she wouldn’t. She kidnapped me.”
Police didn’t agree. The man was charged with battery.
His plea date is Aug. 13.
