FORT WALTON BEACH – A Crestview man was arrested after he told Fort Walton Beach Police officers he was waiting for his friend “Gypsy” at a local condo boat dock, but nobody – not even the man – knew who Gypsy was.

On July 12 somebody saw the man at three separate waterfront condos along Santa Rosa Sound in Fort Walton Beach and called the police. When an officer arrived at Pirates Bay on Miracle Strip Parkway, they found the man’s backpack and bicycle outside the locked gates of the dock area. Then, they saw the man come from behind the locked fence with a portable battery charger in his hand.

He told the officer his friend Gypsy told him to come to the condo and bring the battery charger. He couldn’t provide any kind of identification of Gypsy, and didn’t know where he was. Nobody at the condo knew of any Gypsy. He did point to one boat as being Gypsy’s, but there were people on the boat and none was Gypsy. Then the man said Gypsy must have left, but the people aboard the boat said nobody had left the dock in hours.

The man was arrested for loitering and prowling, and trespassing. His plea date is July 30.
