Man with a taste for meat accused of raiding grocery store

FORT WALTON BEACH – Employees and witnesses say a man walked into a grocery store, picked out a selection of cuts of meats, then walked right past employees and left the store without paying for them.

On July 10 an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputy went to the Winn Dixie on Beal Parkway to investigate the alleged shoplifting.

He was told the 32-year-old Fort Walton Beach man walked into the store and headed for the meat department, where he cose ribeyes, chicken, T-bones, ribs and pork, with a total value of $152.95, and put them in a basket.

Then, he walked past the cash registers and employees standing at the door with the meat.

Employees told him to stop several times, but he fled. An employee and a witness caught him in the parking lot.

He was charged with larceny and resisting the recovery of merchandise, both misdemeanors.

His plea date is July 30.
