FREEPORT — A three-car accident Sunday night caused an estimated $15,000 in damages.
Troy A. Yates, 47, of Seminole was driving eastbound on Interstate 10 near U.S. Highway 331 around 10:45 p.m. when he approached an-other vehicle in front of him at a high rate of speed, according to the Florida Highway Patrol press release.
Yates’ 2008 Mazda hit the rear of a travel trailer attached to 52-year-old Baton Rouge, La., resident Brian T. Murphy’s 1999 Dodge Durgano, the report said.
Yates’ vehicle stopped in the outside through lane, obstructing traffic. While Yates was outside of his vehicle surveying the damages a 2012 semi-truck traveling eastbound hit the rear of the Mazda.
The semi-truck, driven by Lillian, Ala., resident 59-year-old David L. Spencer, was thrust onto the south shoulder of the roadway, sending the truck into the median of the interstate. While in the median, the semi-truck’s fuel tank ruptured spilling diesel fuel onto the ground.
There were no injuries caused as a result of the accident.
A hazardous materials crew was called to the scene to clean up the fuel spill.
Yates was charged with careless driving, according to FHP.
