Man comes up $47.93 short on bar tab

CRESTVIEW – A man who wasn’t able to pay his bar tab struggled with police officers and tried to kick out the rear window of a patrol car as he was being taken to jail, according to an arrest report.

The incident happened June 22 at Don’s Ice House on Ferdon Boulevard. A 28-year-old Laurel Hill man came into the establishment and drank $48.50 worth of alcohol. When it came time to pay his tab, he could only come up with 57 cents. An employee called Crestview Police.

When they arrived and tried to take the man into custody, he started yelling and struggling with them. They handcuffed him and put him in the back of a patrol car, but somehow he slipped the cuffs. He was taken out of the car so he could be re-secured, but thrashed about. During the struggle, an officer got his finger tangled in the handcuffs and was injured.

The officer wrote in the arrest report, “I was forced to run emergency response to the jail, as the defendant was attempting to kick the rear window out of my patrol vehicle.”

He was charged with retail theft and resisting an officer without violence.

His plea date is July 9.
