NICEVILLE – A man who tried to put out a car fire told officers and firefighters he opened the car door and found a burning wire.
The incident occurred June 29 at an Azalea Drive residence. Police and firefighters answering a call found a four-door car on fire.
After the fire was extinguished, a Niceville Police officer took video of the damage and spoke to the owner, a woman, who said she’d driven the car about three hours before and didn’t notice anything wrong.
A witness said the trouble started when the car horn began going off and he noticed smoke coming from under the hood. He opened the door and found a wire under the steering wheel that was on fire. He got a bucket of water and dumped it on the wire, but the flames worsened.
The car was towed. Firefighters don’t believe the fire was caused by arson.
