NICEVILLE – Lawmen say that as one man shopped for personal items at a local discount store, another helped himself to the man’s drill.
The incident occurred June 1, according to a Niceville Police Department arrest report. A man drove his pickup to Walmart on John Sims Parkway and went inside to buy personal items.
Meanwhile, 43-year-old Larry Mayo of Crestview parked next to the pickup, walked to the truck bed, checked out the contents, then lifted three ladders to open a tool box and take a Dewalt drill valued at $180. He allegedly put it in his car and drove off.
Surveillance footage confirmed the theft, and Mayo confessed.
He was charged with burglary to an unoccupied conveyance unarmed, and petit theft second degree, third or subsequent offense (the report indicated he has several prior convictions on theft and burglary charges).
His plea date is July 9.
