MIAMI BEACH — A Miami Beach couple says they are devastated after a bee hive outside their home that they grew to love over two decades has been destroyed.
Richard Rosichan said he and his wife considered the bees their pets. The bees lived in a hollow portion at the root of a mahoghany tree.
The Rosichans said city officials were responding to a complaint about mud being spewed during a nearby sidewalk repair. A compliance officer spotted the hive and arranged to have it killed earlier this week.
The Miami Herald (http://tinyurl.com/lz5ejlu) reports the couple saw a pest control man spraying the hive and begged him to stop. He did, but it was too late. The bees were already gone.
The hive was located on the swale in front of the couple's home.
