DESTIN — There is once again a "For Sale" sign hanging on the former Club Overboard/Twisted Palm building in Destin.
Jimmy Sharpe, who is the Realtor of the parcel, didn't return a message from The Log seeking comment.
As early as last month, the property was adorned with an "under contract" sign. Local Restaurateur AJ Tusa confirmed that he and a business partner were behind the potential project.
And while he didn't disclose the end use of the property, Tusa told The Log at the time that the project would appeal to both locals and tourists.
When reached for comment Monday, Tusa was headed into a meeting, but told The Log "I'm not moving forward."
Since Club Overboard/Twisted Palm closed in 2010, the building has sat vacant, despite efforts from local developers to breathe life into the roughly 19,933-square foot restaurant and bar.
Late last year Damon Becnel had planned to open a project called Family Hunt Club, which would have been a combination of high-end motorcycle sales, rentals and repairs, a motorcycle customization shop, and an authentic pizza kitchen.
The project ultimately fell through at the last minute, Becnel told The Log.
Over the years, the building has seen a variety of occupants, but none of them have been able to show longevity in the building located on U.S. Hwy. 98.
The building’s most recent incarnation was mired by controversy after a rash of incidents led military brass to ban service members from attending the club. Prior to that, the building was the PunchLine Comedy Club, LaRocco’s Italian restaurant and bocce bar, and Nigel Manley’s World Grill and Microbrewery.
