FORT WALTON BEACH — A 21-year-old man was charged with vehicle theft after telling a deputy he found a car with keys in it and thought it was his own.
Sakima Rasha Bracero of Fort Walton Beach was charged with driving without a license as well as the felony charge of grand theft, according to his Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office press release.
Bracero was pulled over Tuesday night for running a stop sign in a Dodge Neon, according to the arrest report. Once the deputy ran the vehicle’s license plate number it was discovered that the Neon was reported stolen.
Bracero attempted to leave the vehicle after being pulled over, but the deputy drew his firearm and told him to stay in the vehicle and to keep his hands visible.
Bracero then made a “spontaneous statement” that he was driving his girlfriend’s vehicle. After he was read his Miranda Rights, he said he found the vehicle with keys inside and thought it was his car, the report said.
Bracero was taken to the Okaloosa County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court June 11.
