CRESTVIEW – A woman told a Crestview Police Officer she was at Walmart trying to buy a soda when “some guy” started harassing her. What she didn’t know is the “guy” was a Walmart loss prevention officer who was concerned about the $141.97 worth of merchandise she hadn’t paid for.

Oh, and the only money she had on her was some change.

The encounter occurred March 26 at 5:09 p.m. at the South Ferdon Boulevard store. The loss prevention officer told the officer he saw the woman leaving with a shopping cart full of items she hadn’t paid for. When he confronted her, she abandoned the cart and continued outside, where she got into a black and yellow Dodge stationwagon and left.

The officer spotted the vehicle and pulled it over.

The woman told him she was just trying to buy a soft drink when “some guy” started harassing her. When the officer asked for her ID she said she’d lost her wallet. So how was she planning to pay for her merchandise? the officer asked. She told him with cash, though she couldn’t produce any.

The loss prevention officer identified her as the woman he stopped at the store.

She was charged with petit theft and resisting a merchant. Her court date is April 23.
