Motorcyclist thrown off bridge in crash

GULF BREEZE — A 42-year-old man from Pace was killed when he was thrown from his motorcycle and off a bridge in a crash late Saturday night.

Kevin Michael Roland Small was riding his Yamaha motorcycle north on Pensacola Beach Boulevard on the Bob Sikes Bridge shortly after 11:30 p.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Small tried to speed through two cars that were in front of him on the bridge, the FHP reported.

He lost control and crashed into two vehicles.

Small then veered into the guardrail. The impact threw him off his bike, over the guardrail and off the bridge.

He was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola where he was pronounced dead, the FHP reported.

16-year-old Zane Joseph Johnson of Gulf Breeze was driving one of the cars Small hit.

Phillip Layne Gambrell, 63, was driving the other vehicle and fled the scene after the crash. He had been located by Sunday evening.

FHP said they are conducting a criminal investigation into the incident. Charges are pending.
