FORT WALTON BEACH – Two drunk men were arrested after they allegedly interfered with a drug task force bust in Fort Walton Beach.

On March 15 members of Okaloosa County’s Multi-Agency Drug Task Force were executing a search warrant at an Eglin Parkway business when a 59-year-old man appeared on the scene. A sheriff’s deputy told him to leave, but the man was drunk and became belligerent. The deputy handcuffed him. Later, the man was released and told to leave the area and not interfere with officers.

A few hours later, the man returned on a bicycle. He approached the arresting officer and once again deputies were distracted by his presence. He was told to leave and stop interfering, but he refused. A deputy tried to arrest him but the man started to peddle away on his bicycle. The deputy was able to stop him. The man was charged with obstruction without violence and faces an April 2 court date.

The second man, who is 35 years old and homeless, walked into the business as lawmen were interviewing suspects. The arresting deputy noted the man appeared and acted as if he were intoxicated (glassy eyes, stumbling while walking, slurred speech). The man was told to leave but he returned – four times.

The last time he began yelling and cursing, saying the lawmen could not stop him from entering the store. He told one deputy, “What are you going to do if I do go into the store, hit me? I will swing on all of you.”

The man approached a deputy trying to interview suspects and yelled, “F--- you, I can do what I want.” At that point he was arrested and charged with obstruction without violence, but not after more cursing.

His court date is April 2.
