EGLIN AFB - Residents may experience low-flying aircraft or noise next week when the 96th Operations Group conducts boat operations in the Gulf of Mexico south of Destin in the morning and in Choctawhatchee Bay in the afternoon.
The test missions will run from Monday through Friday. They are part of the 53rd Wing’s Weapon System Evaluation Program, or WSEP.
Fighter aircraft will release munitions in the morning about 20 nautical miles out in the Gulf. They will be released within a cordoned range safety corridor, and notices to mariners will be issued prior to the missions.
In the bay, about 30 boats will operate in the afternoon as visual simulated targets for fighter aircraft between the Mid-Bay Bridge and the Clyde B. Wells Bridge.
Residents may seen low-flying aircraft and hear noise during the missions. No bombs or munitions will be released.
