NAVARRE — A man is dead after a four-hour standoff with Santa Rosa County sheriff's deputies Friday night.
Deputies tried to serve 54-year-old Jeffrey A. Wright an arrest warrant for counterfeiting at his home on the 6500 block of Avenida De Galvez about 9:40 p.m., said Sheriff’s Office spokesman Deputy Rich Aloy.
Wright barricaded himself inside the home. A single gunshot was heard in the home but Wright was still alive, Aloy said. The SWAT team then arrived and began to negotiate with him.
“At no time did he comply” with requests to surrender, Aloy said.
Gunshots were exchanged later between Wright and SWAT team members, but Aloy did not know who shot first.
Wright was dead at the scene. No deputies were hurt.
Aloy would provide no other details because the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the case.
