CRESTVIEW - Three people were arrested early Friday after a high-speed chase that started in Crestview and ended just north of Shalimar, according to police.

The incident began at 12:40 a.m. when a Crestview officer tried to stop a 2001 Kia on South Boulevard for making an illegal U-turn over a concrete median and having improper taillights, police reported.

The KIA raced south until it neared a Crestview officer who was stationed in the median on State Road 85 to try to identify the driver. The driver veered toward the officer before it continued heading south.

Officers pursued the car until it reached the south end of State Road 123, where Florida Highway Patrol troopers and Okaloosa County sheriff’s deputies picked up the chase. The Kia was stopped after it ran over spike strips laid across SR 85 near the Poquito Bayou military housing area.

Shomari Deqwan Lee Coles-Kolefus and Kyle Dwayne Hamilton, both 18, ran off. Ashley Rose Holtzapple, 18, was arrested immediately.

Coles-Kolfus and Hamilton were captured later.

Coles-Kolefus, the Kia’s driver, was charged with felony fleeing and eluding law enforcement, driving while license suspended as a habitual traffic offender and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

Hamilton was charged with resisting law enforcement without violence. He also was wanted on unrelated charges.

Holtzapple was charged with resisting law enforcement without violence, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

They were taken to Okaloosa County Jail.
