CRESTVIEW - A man who officers initially believed had been shot by an unknown person Friday night actually had been wounded in the leg by someone he was with, according to police.
Officers were called to North Okaloosa Medical Center about 9:30 p.m., where they told an unknown person shot the man near Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Grimes Avenue, police reported. The victim later was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.
Investigators interviewed the victim there later and learned that the man had been with two juvenile boys. One of them had a .9 mm pistol when it discharged accidentally and hit the victim.
The boys drove the victim to North Okaloosa, where the story of an unknown shooter was created.
One of the boys was arrested later on an unrelated outstanding order and taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice facility.
