Sheriff's deputy candidate sentenced for inappropriate sexual relationship

A man whose inappropriate sexual relationship with a juvenile was revealed when he applied to become a sheriff’s deputy will serve five years’ probation on a charge of felony battery causing great bodily harm, court records show.

James Rudd Moore, 21, of Navarre, also ordered by Santa Rosa Circuit Judge David Rimmer to complete 60 hours of community service work and enter a 48-month sexual offender counseling program, according to county Clerk of Court documents.

Moore was ordered to have no contact with his victim and write a “sincere letter of apology” to be delivered by his attorney, according to records.
Moore applied to be a sheriff’s deputy last May.

According to reports from his arrest, the detailed background check he was required to complete turned up the sexual relationship with a juvenile.

Under the terms of the plea bargain reached Dec. 20, Moore was sentenced on the felony battery charge, but adjudication of guilt was withheld by the judge, records showed.

A charge of lewd and lascivious assault on a person between 12 and 15 years old was dropped.
