FORT WALTON BEACH - The heating system in Carpet City at Eglin Parkway and Hollywood Boulevard caused a fire in the store’s ductwork Wednesday afternoon, according to Fort Walton Beach firefighters.
When the store’s heat was turned on, the lint and dust on the heat strips caught fire, Battalion Chief Gene Large said. The embers were blown through the ductwork.
Firefighters were called about 3:30 p.m. when smoke began to fill the store.
Firefighter’s evacuated the Family Dollar next door as a precaution.
No one was hurt. Damage was estimated at $2,500 to the ductwork.
