FORT WALTON BEACH – A woman was accused of using drugs with 1,000 feet of a church after she was caught in the parking lot of a local department store with another person doing drugs, lawmen say.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Officer reports an anonymous caller tipped them off to two women sitting in a car in the parking lot at Kohls using illegal narcotics. A deputy made contact with the two and found prescription narcotics and a scale behind the driver’s seat.

The passenger’s purse yielded a plastic bag containing a gram of methamphetamines. The woman, 23-year-old Cassandra Burton of Holt, said she wasn’t using it but was delivering it to “someone.”

Her purse also contained several small, plastic jeweler’s bags, commonly used for packaging narcotics.

She was charged with amphetamine possession with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver within 1,000 feet of a place of worship Schedule II, III, IV. Her plea date is Jan. 21.
