CRESTVIEW — A family’s home was destroyed in a fire on Christmas Day.

A husband and wife and their two young children will be staying with relatives until they can find somewhere to live, said Battalion Chief Jon Riedel with the Crestview Fire Department.

Firefighters were called to the home at 225 Trish Drive shortly after 11 a.m. on Wednesday. They found flames shooting out of the roof and the garage.

No one was home at the time of the fire, but the pet dog. Firefighters were able to pull the dog from the home and resuscitate him, Riedel said.

It took about 30 minutes to get the blaze under control and firefighters had the entire fire extinguished by about 2 p.m.

Preliminary investigations indicate the fire started due to an electrical prpoblem in the attic, Riedel said.

Damage estimates are about $175,000 for the home and an additional $80,000 in belongings.

Riedel said the husband serves in the military and had just returned from a deployment.

Red Cross is assisting the family as they deal with the loss and try to get back on their feet.
