The final report on the state’s audit of the Okaloosa County government is now available on the county’s website.
The State Auditor General’s team focused on departments that fall under the Okaloosa County Commission and the Clerk of Courts Office. The audit covered the period from October 2011 to February 2013.
It was the second to come out of the Mark Bellinger fraud scandal of 2012. The analysis included 21 findings in 11 areas, including fraud and ethics controls, administrative management, information technology, public spending and travel.
“We have made many changes in procedures following the audit of the Tourist Development Department, and welcome the findings in the audit to assist us moving forward and improving processes in all departments,” County Commission Chairman Don Amunds said.
In response to the audit, the county has tightened its controls of employee credit cards, documentation of expenses, fraud risk and documentation of financial conflicts of interest.
