SHALIMAR – Four months after being saved from the frying pan, Sally Colburn’s heart-shaped potato is showing signs of age.
The small spud, discovered in a bag she bought with her husband before he died in May, has developed wrinkles and a mold spot.
But Colburn plans to preserve it and cherish it for as long as possible.
The potato, now tucked away in her freezer, is the sign she was hoping to get from Jack, her husband of nearly 50 years.
She misses him terribly, especially during the holiday season. Finding the potato was a bright spot in the months since his death.
Having her story go viral was more of a mixed blessing. Some were inspired by her conviction, while others ridiculed her.
“You have your good days and your bad days and your moments,” she said of the last six months. “You have to keep going.
“There’s a reason for everything.”
