Rewarding kindness

Krystel Boltz was working at What-A-Burger on Tuesday morning when one of her customers handed her $100.

He told Boltz that he chooses one service person a year to randomly reward with extra crash.

“He was telling my manager I’m very polite and that I’m kind to him when he comes in,” Boltz said.

She was touched by the kindness, appreciative of the praise and grateful for the money, which would help her buy gifts for her two children.

‘We thank God every day’

It’s been five months since strangers risked their lives to rescue Judy and Pete Marchiando from a storm-tossed bay. During that time, strangers became friends.

“We think about it a lot and we thank God every day that everybody came out of it,” Judy said.

The Niceville couple were on their boat on Choctawhatchee Bay on July 21 when a sudden storm came up as they were heading in. Four large waves swept everyone off the boat and capsized it.

Strangers on two passing boats stopped to pull eight people — including several children — out of the water.

Since then, the Marchiandoshave kept in touch with their rescuers, even offering one of the families free use of their condo in Orlando.

“Every day, I’m still just grateful for what’s happened,” Judy says.

Ringing in spirit

An “older couple” at Publix grocery in Crestview is making Misty Scroggin Koscielniak’s holidays bright. The Salvation Army bell ringers approach their job with heartfelt Christmas spirit, ringing the bell and singing Christmas carols for customers.

Saluting military families

Kudos to Wal-Mart, which donated nearly $50,000 to the Fisher House at Eglin Air Force Base through its National Salute to Military Families program. The sum is part of a $2 million grant program nationwide to ease the burdens of service members, families and veterans during the holiday season.

Lost and found

Sometimes people just do the right thing, like a man named Cesar who picked up an ATM card he found lying in the Daily News parking lot.

Our receptionist called the bank to make sure the card’s owner got it back safely.

If a stranger’s kindness has touched your life, tell us about it by sending your Community Kudos to news@nwfdailynews.com or by calling Wendy Victora at 315-4478.
